Network Operations Engineer, GEN Operations

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly.

You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies.

Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services. In this role, you will operate Google Enterprise Network within Service Level Objective (SLO) to provide a reliable, secure and consistent networking experience to Googlers through effective monitoring, faster service restoration, efficient tools and processes.

Responsibilities:

Serve as a subject matter expert in multiple network domains (e.g., Routing, Switching, Wireless, Firewalls, SD-WAN, Network Automation).

Manage the network escalations and provide technical leadership during critical service-impacting events, working closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC).

Lead initiatives to meet and exceed Service Level Objectives (SLOs), aiming for a 99.95% network availability target globally.

Oversee the operational aspects of New Product Introductions (NPIs), including designs like NextGEN WAN and Office, involving testing, defining operational requirements, developing support models, and creating documentation.

Develop scripts and tools (often using Python or Go) to automate network diagnostics, configuration, and monitoring tasks.
